Alcohol and drug addiction is one of the most common form of societal health problem that has spread its tentacles widely across the length and breadth of the nation. Alcohol and drug addiction does not discriminate amongst its victims. In fact, addiction to drugs affects people of all ages, genders, socioeconomic levels and classes. Across the United States, people from all demographics are struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. As per the data of SAMHASA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) more than 24 million residents within the age group of 12 years and older are currently struggling with drug addiction in United States. Surprisingly, only about 10 percent of these people are getting treatment or professional help in various alcohol and drug rehab centers located across various locations of U.S. When studying the effects of alcohol and drugs based on gender, research conducted at the University of Washington concluded that more recently born women have developed more alcohol dependence in a shorter period when compared with their elders reflecting a strong secular trend from one age group to the other.
